This course has been designed in consultation with lead trainers on the Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership and the Level 3 Award in Day Walk Leadership qualifications.
It is designed as a one day, stand-alone course covering core first aid skills but also includes the key elements which are relevant to outdoor leaders such as hypothermia, burns from stoves and blisters.
It will also suit those working with Duke of Edinburgh's Award groups, Park Rangers, Health Walk Leaders, Field Study Teachers and others looking for a one day, 8 hour, stand-alone, outdoor focused first aid course.
It covers essential first aid skills and will give people the knowledge and confidence to deal with a first aid situation. It concentrates on core, first-on-scene skills which are integral to all first aid with particular application in the outdoors. The course is provided through practical training and hands on scenarios:
- The course covers vital first aid essentials and the latest protocols for CPR and Accident Procedures.
- Our courses are certified and regulated by ITC - an HSE approved and SQA and OfQual regulated body.
- This one day course covers the first 8 hours of standard courses and as such it is suitable for appointed persons in the workplace.
- Where appropriate to clients we use our experience of working in remote environments to look at the practicalities of applying these core skills in the outdoors or when operating in remote environments.
Course Content:
Accident Procedures Essential life saving systems for assessing and treating unconscious casualties.
Resuscitation and choking: Applying the latest protocols to deal with non-breathing casualties.
Bleeding and shock: We will look at dealing with major bleeds.
Hypo and hyperthermia: We will also look at burns and blisters.
Scenarios: Through out the day we will use scenarios to put the theory into practice.
