Fieldwork Skills Weekend

Our Fieldwork Skills Weekend is unique and is 'the' course to attend if you are involved in any kind of fieldwork.

We work extensively with fieldworkers at Universities and research bodies up and down the country running in-house safety training courses. But many attendees asked if we could provide training on more of the practical skills - and to do it out in the field! So this unique weekend will bring together fieldworkers from round the country for two days of practical training. We'll look at navigation skills, using a range of GPS, maps, compasses, pacing and bearings. We'll look at camp craft - how to plan fieldwork safely and look at handling emergencies in the field.

We'll use a combination of formal taught sessions and outdoor activities and practicals - so we hope you will learn lots, be able to meet other fieldworkers and share ideas, learn new skills and practice existing ones with experienced and enthusiastic trainers. Better still you can do all this in a beautiful setting just on the edge of the Lake District, yet easily accessible by road or main line railway.

What will we cover:

• Fieldwork Planning: risk management and preparation
• Dealing with Emergencies - crisis planning and dealing with casualties in the field
• Navigation - pacing and bearings, route planning GPS and maps
• Camp craft - tents and hammocks, field food and cooking - stoves and firelighting
• River crossings and safety on steep ground

The course fee covers two full days training, bunk house accommodation and food through the weekend.
