James Burns

James grew up in the middle of a national park in the UK where his passion for the outdoors was born. This led him to work with the Australian Conservation Volunteers for 10 months before going to university where he studied Countryside Planning and Leisure Management. He then joined the British Army where he trained as an officer and was a member of several expeditions. He was forced to leave the army with a broken ankle and so became qualified as a Chartered Town Planner. In his spare time he was a member of Exmoor Search and Rescue and did some voluntary instructing at the Exmoor Calvert Trust, a charity for people with disabilities. In a lifestyle and career change move, he joined Fieldskills after coming to Borneo with his wife and two children in September 2010. A keen runner and cyclist, he loves to exercise when he has the time and can't wait for when his daughter is old enough to climb Mt Kinabalu with him!

Henry is a Dusun from Kampung Kiau, a village right at the foot of Mt Kinabalu. Born 1979, married, expecting their first baby as we speak. Henry started in the tourism industry in 2000 and is one of our most experienced tour leaders.
