Client Testimonial

It seemed clear that the company had very experienced personnel and, importantly, Dominic indicated a willingness to be flexible and to work with the Safety Office in tailoring any training according to our specific needs...

...the trainees, even those who considered themselves to be 'experienced' fieldworkers, came away from the courses having learned something new that they could apply in their own fieldwork.

With University staff and students involved in a hugely diverse range of fascinating fieldwork across the UK and around the world, training is a vital part of their safety provision. Fieldskills has been delighted over recent years to design and run a huge variety of first aid, fieldwork safety, risk management and expedition skills courses for Universities across the country.

With increasing attention brought on health and safety, particularly in relation to British standard BS8848, many Universities have chosen Fieldskills courses to support those involved in these ventures and increase their safety provision and preparation.

Both 8848 and the UCEA/USHA Guidance on Health and Safety in Fieldwork emphasise the importance of training for field staff and managers in dynamic field risk management. As enthusiastic field people we aim to run training which brings this subject to life and makes it approachable.

If you'd like to know more about Fieldwork Safety Guidance we've written a pdf Guide to the new UCEA / USHA Guidance.

What training do we offer:

  • First Aid - First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid and Outdoor First Aid courses can all be incorporated into our bespoke training courses
  • Effective Risk Assessment before a trip and dynamic risk management in the field
  • Emergency planning and incident management - helping people be ready if things go wrong
  • Off-site Safety Management

We are sure we can come up with something to suit you - and share your enthusiasm for fieldwork so are more than happy to chat through the possibilities on 0845 293 7296.

Previous courses: from consultations for a particular trip, seminars for senior staff on fieldwork planning and large packages covering field risk assessment, emergency management, first aid and environment specific travel safety skills. They have been run over anything from two hours to three days and group sizes from 1 to 60 people.

Clients include: Universities of Oxford, Leeds, Bristol, Southampton, Oxford Brookes, Glasgow, Cranfield, Nottingham and many more...

The diverse range of fieldwork undertaken in Universities means many courses have different requirements so to chat about what you may need please just get in touch.

EXAMPLE:

Oxford University

We have worked with Oxford University over a number of years and designed a range of courses to suit the incredibly diverse range of fieldwork their staff and students take part in.

We started with a single course in fieldwork safety covering dynamic risk assessment and crisis planning in the field and have now developed a range of courses focused on different areas. We have run first aid, fieldwork safety and even urban travel safety courses. These have all been offered centrally and offered to a range of University Fieldworkers. It has been particularly good to see the courses in turn taken up by other departments who experienced the course and then contacted us to design something specific for their department or field trip.
